I think one of the difficulties that we encountered was regarding our unfamiliarity with the place. For an instance, we didn’t know where to go when we arrived in the airport of Jakarta. Plus, the people there didn’t know how to speak English. We tried to ask some questions but they resisted to answer since they didn’t understand what we were saying. In addition, when we bought our food or eat outside, I had a hard time communicating with the vendors.
I experienced language barrier with my mentor in Mercu Buana Yogyakarta since he couldn’t understand and speak English well. “ We could talk and share more about mathematics if I can speak English well”, said by Pak Heru. Most of the teachers who helped me in making my lesson plans and instructional materials were my cooperating teachers and other math lecturer at Kesatuan Bangsa School.
